Bartlesville Oklahoma – First Newsletter: Volume 1, Issue 1 Print E-mail
Things are moving quickly in Bartlesville.  Here is a message from Gina Elias that came with the newsletter:
"Most of the information is designed to keep everyone informed on the various teams as we move forward while, hopefully, inspiring additional people to get involved. I have added a couple of things that did not make the newsletter.

  • Tri County Technology Center has trained 103 staff members in Bridges out of Poverty. They have also reviewed the Getting Ahead curriculum and love it. They have one staff member who will be joining our team in facilitating a Getting Ahead class. They are also sending over referrals.
  • We are working with Salvation Army, Lowes Foundation, and Bartlesville Public Schools, Run the Streets and Habitat for Humanity on filling some of the Getting Ahead classes. The organizations have already filled 2 classes starting the end of April. They all provide funds in some capacity … either through sponsoring dinners, childcare, or purchasing materials for the classrooms.
  • Oklahoma Wesleyan University is looking at the Getting Ahead curriculum. Dr. Everett Piper will try and get his board to give Getting Ahead graduates, who are interested in going to college, scholarships to OWU.  He is going to see if the board will accept any financial aid they qualify for, with the remaining balance for tuition covered by OWU. Hopefully, Rogers State University will follow in their footsteps. I will keep you posted if it works out."
